944 or 928? Which and why? Factor in anything and anything real-world based. Looks, power, handling, maintenance, costs, ect.

Plus you could probably get a 944 in good condition way cheaper than a 928.

944. It just looks more 1980's. I personally would just want to have non flip up headlights if I personally get one. I'd rather just build custom lights for it.

Ok? Anything else? I reckon the curved lines of the 928 sorta give it that grand tourer look, because it is a GT car.

928 for sure. I'd want an early version from the 70's with a manual but that V8 just sounds like nothing on the road. I'd like the think they're only 20% more complex than a 944 Turbo and for me it's a way more exciting car.

More or less. I could do without the slotted grill, and funky looking fogs/driving lights below them though. I dig that color though.
How bad would it be if I built a SRT4 motor to swap in?

I'd say that the 944 is a cool car but the 928 is a genuine exotic. It's also cool to mentally park a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am next to a 1978 928 and think that they were both built in the same year.

Well I actually want 944. And if I could find one that meets my requirements (And there are non in KS that do) I would have bought one already.
928 just doesn't interest me at all. I think part of it is from its original intent to replace the 911.

'Tis because of the 951(944 Turbo front end) and the slots come from the 924 Carrera GT; it's most likely a custom job for the slots, sending cold air right to the engine.
I must email you later.

951 looks to be my style then, just drop that silly hood scoop, and close up the slots. I'll put in an air dam for the lower openings to keep it cool.
Maybe I'll look at built SRT4 motors, and what transmissions can work with them for RWD. Even a stock Neon 2.0 is pretty reliable, and probably easier to work on than the Porsche motor. I think it's a respectable swap for a 944 with no motor...
email me whenever, I actually have a laptop with me tonight instead of my tablet and phone.

Money no problem: later 928 because there aren't too many corners to carve where I live, so a cruiser would be awesome. Realistically: 944, because they are cheap and relatively reliable.

I'll have to consult with Mathias and see what he thinks. Neon motors are easy to come by, fairly inexpensive, and easy to work on. Mount the motor for RWD, and it could be a lot easier to work on than in the Neon. Just need to figure out the motor mounts....

From what I'm seeing on my local CL, a clean 944 will go for about $4k.
That'll get me a mid-late 80s Corvette C4.
I've found both '84 and '87 models for $4k.
So either 205 or 240 horsepower, 290 or 345 lbs-ft of torque
More reliable (except maybe the electronic gauge cluster)
Parts would be cheaper
Easy to get much more power out of those engines
Because 'Murican
Because Chevy
Because I think the C4 looks great
So yeah, C4 for me.

Anywhere else you'd like to look? You may have to look a little further. Also, I don't really understand why no manual. I've driven a '74 911 and an '84 944 in stop and go traffic and even my FoST, it's not that bad really.

Not really sure where. I'm sort of limited by how far I can travel.
Just didn't enjoy it and don't see the hype. It was even in a Miata and I didn't have fun when I could give it the beans.
K-Roll-PorscheTamer

I could care less about the Miata honestly(forgive me Raptor Jesus). There is no hype to it, you either do it or don't. It's not supposed to be an enjoyment either, it's a lifestyle in a way. I switched from my auto Astra to a manual FoST and 944 and have no regrets; reckon it depends on the traffic where you are, but it'll be nothing compared to LA and Atlanta, be thankful for that.
What's the absolute furthest you can go? Not how far you want to go, but how far you CAN go.

I've owned a 928 and driven both. I would probably go for a 944, because:
- I've had a crush on the 944 since I was a kid; there's just something about it...
- More of a light, fun car than a heavy cruiser car (928)
- I maintain hope that a 944 would be slightly less apocalyptically costly to maintain than a 928, though I don't really have data to support this.
- I've already owned a 928. :-)
